Flat Earth in The Holy Bible
The Holy Bible, both the Old and the New Testaments, has many verses which help illustrate for the reader the shape of the earth and the skies above. The Bible speaks of the earth as a stationary plane which does not move (or rotate or orbit for that matter). Here, when we say ‘plane’, we actually mean a flat platform with its outlining edges taking the shape of a circle. The circle, as we all know it, is NOT a ball or a sphere, in fact it is a two dimensional shape which has a circumference and a diameter, and does not have volume.
Earth may have thickness beneath our feet, still not making it a sphere, and that is the same as looking at a thick pizza where a pizza remains a flat circle regardless of its thickness. This earth is believed to be set on pillars, and when we say pillars – these pillars do not have to look like construction pillars as we know them as they can be of a different size, shape and height.
Pillars and foundations of the Earth:
- Psalms 93:1
- “He established the world; it shall never be moved.”
- 1 Samuel 2:8
- “...and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth [are] the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them.”
- Isaiah 24:18
- "...for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake."
- Job 9:5
- “…..which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger. [9:6] Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.”
- Psalms 75:3
- “The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.”
- Proverbs 8:29
- “When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth.”
- 2 Samuel 22:16
- “And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered...”
- Job 38:4
- “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.”
- Job 38:6
- “Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner stone thereof.”
- Psalms 18:15
- “Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.”
- Psalms 82:25
- “They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.”
- Psalms 104:5
- “[Who] laid the foundations of the earth, [that] it should not be removed for ever."
- Isaiah 40:21
- “Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?”
- Isaiah 51:13
- “And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth.”
- Isaiah 5:16
- “….that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth….”
- Jeremiah 31:37
- “Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath…."
- Micah 6:2
- “Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD’S controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth.”
For all the verses above it seems that the Bible has been, not only hinting, but using the very description of the earth, its pillars and foundations, in many locations of is text. The Bible uses the terms ‘pillars’ and ‘foundations’ of the earth as the norm as if the divine message, for the people, was to show them what the earth’s structure was really like. Having pillars and foundations for any structure only produces that the structure has no means of motion, in fact the Bible warns that if the earth was to move it would be a catastrophe and a worldwide disaster.
It is important to note that text, in the Holy Bible, describing the earth and the heavens is to be taken literally since no metaphors can keep up with the illustration of a structure. As an example: if God, in the Bible, says : “the foundations of the earth were strong” then the text literally refers to the strong physical structure of real foundations, however, if the text said “the foundations of the earth were strong as marble pillars” then the text would still confirm the existence of the foundations but is describing the strength as something a person can refer to using his/her knowledge of the strength of marble (in this example). The foundations and the pillars, in our case, stand firm in the text.

The firmament is a structure above the land we live on:
- Genesis 1:6
- “And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”
- {in this verse, the Bible is explaining that the firmament above holds waters above it and is a physical divider between the waters above and the waters of the Earth.}
- Genesis 1:7
- "And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so."
- Psalms 19:1
- "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork."
- {in this verse, God is announcing his handywork for creating and achieving a huge physical structure with the scale of the sky (the firmament). Such a structure is surely worth announcing to glorify His work and might; as opposed to the nothingness of a void sky which modern day scientists claim is the sky.}
- Ezekiel 1:22
- "And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above."
- {in this verse, it is very clear the Bible is describing a huge structure which has been stretched above our heads, and is made with the visual characterists of crystal.}
- Ezekiel 1:26
- "And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone....."
- {in this particular verse, God is clearly referring to the firmament as a solid structure which has its vertical position and elevation and is referring to a throne situated above it.}

In the verses to follow, God calls the "firmament", in many occassions, "heaven" and "heavens". As the Bible speaks of the heaven, and the heavens, it becomes clear that the firmament resembles the whole and full overhead structure - and the heaven is the lowermost layer of the total thickness of the firmament, or our ceiling, as we can understand it. We will stop at a few verses to notice that God still describes "the heaven" with physical characteristics as it is still the solid firmament. It is, also, important to distinguish between "heaven: the firmament" and "heaven: the garden of Eden" as the latter is not what we will be discussing here:
The heaven is the firmament:
- Genesis 1:8
- "And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day."
- Genesis 1:14
- "And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night...."
- {in this verse, regardless of the final thickness of the firmament, the lowermost layer of it contains the light which we see}
- Genesis 1:16 and 17
- "(16) And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. (17) And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth"
- {in these verses, God is describing the place where the two lights (the sun and moon) reside - in the lowermost part of the firmament as that is where the light reflects and shines}
- Genesis 2:1
- "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them."
- {in this verse, if the heavens above were a mere void of air and nothingness then God would not say he finished creating them, in fact He does not refer to the air between the earth and the heaven as a creation which shows might and required finishing because He mentions in previous verses in Genesis that this void, between the heaven and earth was a result of dividing the above and below waters by the mighty structure of the heavens. This can also be compared with mankind as we boast and glorify ourselves for structures and inventions of scale, size and weight which we produce and never consider voids}

If we simply look at the creation of the stretched-out land beneath our feet, which we call earth, then having a solid firmament above it should not come with a big surprise. Meaning, the firmament should not be considered an impossibility because we have existing proof of a similarly vast creation and that is what where all living creatures dwell. Now, if we can establish that the firmament (or the heaven) is a solid structure which is a fully-stretched overhead-ceiling above the whole of the earth, we can then understand that it comes with windows and doors, and these structures do open and close when it is required of them. For the following verses it would be helpful for the reader to remember that the heaven holds waters above it:
The windows of the firmament:
- Genesis 7:11
- "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened."
- Genesis 8:2
- "The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;"
- Isaiah 24:18
- "And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake."
- Malachi 3:10
- "... if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
- Psalms 78:23
- "Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven"
- Revelation 4:1
- "After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet..."

Since we have reached this far, the firmament being the solid ceiling it is and contains substructures of windows and doors, we can now understand when the Bible mentions that beings and things descend down from it and ascend up towards it. This is to say that the descent occurs with the firmament being the starting point [solid], down through the void of air, until reaching the earth [solid as final destination]:
Descending from and Ascending to the Heaven:
- Genesis 28:12
- "And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it."
- Proverbs 30:4
- "Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists?..."
- Matthew 28:2
- "And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven,..."
- Acts 10:11
- "And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:"
- 1 Thessalonians 4:16
- "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout..."
